What cosmetic dentistry is

Most smiles don't need a new face. They need one or two careful changes: a brighter shade, a repaired chip, a straighter line. Done well, nobody notices the dentistry. They just notice you smile more.

Six treatments, one happy tooth.

Teeth whitening

Coffee, tea and wine slowly stain teeth yellow. In the chair, a professional whitening gel is painted on and left to work, lifting the stains out of the enamel. The gel is rinsed off and your teeth are several shades whiter, usually in one visit.

  1. Yellow stains build up
  2. Whitening gel painted on

Porcelain veneers

Veneers are made for front teeth. A very thin layer is polished off the front, then a custom porcelain shell, about as thin as a fingernail, is bonded on. It covers stains, chips and uneven edges in one go.

  1. Stained, chipped front tooth
  2. Very thin layer polished off
  3. Porcelain shell bonded on
  4. New shape and colour

No-prep veneers

For short or worn front teeth, nothing is drilled away. An ultra-thin porcelain shell is bonded straight onto the tooth and adds back the length and fullness that was missing.

  2. Nothing drilled away
  3. Ultra-thin shell bonded on
  4. Longer and fuller

Dental bonding

Tooth-coloured resin is pressed into the chip and shaped by hand to rebuild the missing piece. A blue light hardens it in seconds, then it is polished until it blends right in. Often done in one visit.

  2. Resin pressed in and shaped

Cosmetic crowns

A cracked or badly damaged tooth is shaped down into a small core. A custom crown, shaped like a natural tooth, slides over the core like a cap and is cemented in place, so the tooth is strong again.

  2. Shaped down into a small core
  3. Crown slid over it like a cap

Invisalign aligners

A clear, removable aligner fits over your teeth and is worn day and night. Every 1-2 weeks you switch to the next aligner in the series, and each one moves your teeth a little closer into line.

  1. Crooked, crowded teeth
  2. Clear aligner worn day and night
  3. A new aligner every 1-2 weeks
  4. A straight smile

Porcelain veneers

Two kinds of veneers. One you.

Both are hand-crafted porcelain. The difference is how much of your natural tooth is touched. Your dentist will tell you honestly which one suits you.

01Most conservative
An untouched front tooth with an ultra-thin porcelain shell beside it
Your tooth, untouchedUltra-thin porcelain

No-prep veneers

Ultra-thin porcelain shells bonded straight onto your natural teeth, with little or no enamel removed. Usually no numbing and no temporaries, and your own teeth stay largely intact.

  • Small, worn or slightly gapped teeth
  • Straight smiles that want more fullness and brightness
  • Patients who want the most conservative option
Compare both
02Most transformative

Thin enamel layerPorcelain

Minimal-prep veneers

A very thin layer of enamel is gently reshaped so the porcelain sits flush and natural. You wear temporaries while your veneers are crafted, and the result can change shape, length and colour far more.

  • Uneven, misshapen or deeply stained teeth
  • Bigger changes to shape, length or symmetry
  • Teeth that would look bulky with added thickness

Your veneers, step by step

Five visits from hello
to your new smile.

1

Initial consultation

We talk about what you'd like to change and what you'd never change. Your dentist examines your teeth and tells you honestly whether no-prep or minimal-prep veneers suit you.

In studio or by webcamWritten estimate
2

Photos & scan

Photographs, x-rays and a digital scan capture your teeth and face. They're used to design your smile, choose your shade and show you a preview before anything is made.

No messy impressionsPreview to approve
3

Tooth prep

For minimal-prep veneers a very thin layer of enamel is reshaped and you leave in temporaries to test-drive the design. For no-prep veneers there's little or no shaping.

Comfortable, numbedTemporaries if needed
4

Veneer seat

About two to three weeks later your hand-crafted veneers arrive. We try them in, check shade and fit with you, then bond them in place.

Follow up

A few weeks later we check your bite, gums and comfort, fine-tune anything needed, and fit a night guard if you grind.

Questions

Cost, insurance & care.

Straight answers to what patients ask most before booking.

How much does cosmetic dentistry cost in Porter Ranch?+

It depends on the treatment. Whitening costs far less than veneers or a full smile makeover. You'll get a personalized written estimate after an in-person consultation.

Does insurance cover cosmetic dentistry?+

Treatments that are purely cosmetic usually aren't covered. Procedures that also restore function, such as a crown on a damaged tooth, may be partly covered. We'll check your benefits for you.

How long do results last?+

Whitening lasts from a few months to a couple of years, depending on diet and habits. Porcelain veneers and crowns can last a decade or more with good care and regular checkups.

Is it safe? Is there recovery time?+

Most cosmetic treatments are routine and need little or no recovery time. Your dentist will explain the specifics for your plan at your consultation.

Which treatments do you offer?+

Teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, no-prep veneers, dental bonding, cosmetic crowns and Invisalign. Many plans combine two or three of these.

How do I choose a cosmetic dentist?+

Look for real before-and-after photos, clear pricing and a dentist who listens to what you want. A good consultation should feel like a conversation, not a sales pitch.

No-prep or minimal-prep veneers: which is right for me?+

No-prep veneers suit small, worn or slightly gapped teeth that need more fullness. Minimal-prep veneers suit teeth that need reshaping or have deep stains. Not everyone is a candidate for no-prep; your dentist confirms after an exam.

How do I care for veneers?+

Brush twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste, floss daily, avoid biting ice or pens, wear a night guard if you grind, and keep up regular checkups.
